Sitis Montessori School in 2009

When Sitis Montessori decided to reopen her school in 2009 it was decided that it would be opened with a purpose. It should be opened for 1 reason that is to give an opportunity for parents to be able to make choices in their child's future. We started with 6 children namely Ijlah, Syahirah, Damia, Imran, Edruz and Najwa. Not many people in Datuk Keramat knows about Montessori so my 1st group of children are all from outside Datuk and still are till today. Till today we are the only Montessori school in Datuk Keramat to practise a true Montessori approach.


Sitis Montessori School started with 5 children in 2009. Today I have opened my school for parents to view how a montessori class setup should be. As the room is rather limited in space the different environment were seperated by different shelves.  
Sensorial , Language and Mathematics were put in the same room but arranged according to the needs of the child.
A montessori school or classroom should be of a pleasing colour so as not to distract the child when working. As most traditional schools has alot of colours and cartoon figurines on the wall do any of the adults ever ask the child, "Do you like the walls?".
Have they ask their neighbours, " Do you mind and like the colour of our building?"
 Sensorial materials were placed according to presentation as it would be easier for the child to work with it accordingly after being presented by an adult. All the shelves are low and children can choose their work and keep the materials independantly.
 Exercise of practical life are placed seperately in another working area/room.

Work by the children are the only displays we have on the wall.

Aidil Zakuan joined Sitis Montessori at aged 3.
Montessori prepares you further than Primary 1 or O level. Its a preparation for life.
The child in the picture is Ijlah who joined me at 4 yrs old and now she is in Primary 2 after an assesment which allows her to bypass Primary 1 and goes to Primary 2.
Pouring falls into the Exercises of Practical life. The child has to pour the water to a marked line in the cup. He has to use his eye and hand coordination.
When Edruz joined us he had no knowledge about numbers. What he is working on in the above picture is understanding the concept of odd and even numbers.
Not very child is ready to write, so in a montessori environment we use moveable alphabets to do spelling and reading. Writing will follow suit when the is child ready.
Abid joined us at age 3. He was introduced to dressing frames. It will help him to take care of himself.
Izzati joined us at 4 yrs old in 2010 and is doing well. She is a joy to nurture. Helps with her friends work without being ask.
Najwa came at almost 3+yrs old. Tracing of the alphabets helps prepare her for writing.
A child is allowed to watch another at work.
The children are thaught to observe without disturding the child's work.
Darwish is 6 and was doing fine in a montessori school. He is our only special child in the school. After being a traditional preschool his therapist advised his parents to put him in a montessori school. He has since gone to Primary 1.
